Museum of Waitangi: Henwood Construction were invited to be part of the Initial Design Review Team for this National Project. Henwoods were then the successful Tenderer for the Construction of the Museum, and are programmed to complete the project by December 2015. We have also been contracted to complete the internal Exhibition Fit Out with the independent Wellington Fit Out Design Team.
Design of the Museum required significant perimeter bored concrete piles complete with 8 metre ground anchors for additional support; maximum 6.5 metre deep bulk excavation within the piled area, shotcrete walls to piles and stringent waterproofing measures. Lower floor slab, coloured concrete exposed aggregate patterned PC wall panels to perimeter, warm roof, curtain wall external glazing and elaborate HVAC component to accurately control temperature and humidity.
The Museum is a Building of National Importance and as a Northland Company we are delighted that we were the preferred Construction Firm. We have utilised local contractors as much as possible, and the high workmanship and dedication to the project has shown with the commitment to budget and programme that is being maintained.
Waitangi National Trust – John Scott Visitors Centre upgrade: Following on from the successful completion of the Waitangi National Museum we were then contracted to upgrade the existing John Scott Building. John Scott was a very successful (and the first) Maori Architect. His designs are distinctive and easily recognizable. The upgrade has followed in John Scotts footsteps, reusing existing materials but extending the retail space and opening it to the native bush and walkways. Particular consideration was made to not intrude on John Scotts design, but to follow it.
This contract was again completed on time and on budget.
